One of the reasons why Starforgers has been such a hoot to write is due in no small part to presence of space pirates in the story. I have ruthless pirates, sexy pirates, kind hearted pirates and a mad, android pirate captain. How can you top that? Damn near impossible, I’d say. Anyway, back to the subject at hand for this post – Pirate Starships.
Outside the jurisdiction of the Federation, in the vast area of space known as the Outer Rim, live the pirates. They prey on unsuspecting transport ships along shipping lanes between Outer Rim worlds. The Stellar Rangers were created in part, to provide protection from interstellar pirates. Each border world has at least one Ranger Company charged with keeping the pirates under control.
The typical pirate ship is a captured freighter that has been modifies with rail guns. They usually have flaming skulls painted on their sides to mark themselves as pirates – my homage to the skull and cross bones flag.
This ship is the Revenge, whose captain is a former Federation officer known as Morgan Blud. Captain Blud plays a pivotal role in the novel. His ship is seen above, complete with flaming skull.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any more drawings of the pirate ships that I have created for the novel since I began writing. Perhaps I will get inspired to render a few of them in the coming months. But for now, this is all you get.
Thanks for stopping by Jacqui! I spent a great deal of time as a teenager world building for the Starstrikers Universe. I have hundreds of drawings, and a few models that still survive to this day. Those are the building blocks for my current stories.
It is a bit like Star Trek in that I have many different stories taking place in the same imagined universe.
Great drawings. Do you create the background for all of your Sci Fi (ala Star Trek)?
