One of my favorite aviation stories is the Amelia Earhart mystery. In 1937, aviatrix Earhart and her navigator, Fed Noonan, disappeared over the South Pacific in their attempt to circumnavigate the Earth in a twin engine Lockheed Electra L 10A.
This AP News Story focuses on new evidence found from a reporter’s notebook and eye witness accounts from listeners to short wave radio at the time of the incident. Being a Ham radio operator and knowing a thing or two about radio propagation, I can certainly believe that people half a planet away could have heard Earhart’s pleas for help on the radio. It’s one aviation mystery that I would love to see solved before I die.
