Book Music

Some of the music that put me in the mood for writing Starforgers are listed below. I generally didn’t listen to anything while I wrote. But these albums set the tone for getting me in the mood to write.

Pink Martini – Hang On Little Tomato, Splendor in the Grass

Squirrel Nut Zippers – Hot

Miles Davis – Essential Miles Davis

Various Western Songs.

Saint-Saens Symphonie No 3 “Avec Orgue”

The Black Keys – Brothers

Kings of Leon – Come Around Sundown

Neko Case – Middle Cyclone

True Grit – Soundtrack

Johnny Cash – Various Songs

Mostly Jazzy, and Western themed music as I was bridging a Space Western with a Space Opera themed novel. I listened to the True Grit soundtrack and the Zippers the most. Revenge is a big theme in the novel and so that explains some of the tones I listened to like Cash, True Grit and the Black Keys. There was a band playing in an earlier draft and I imagined the Zippers singing Put a Lid On It. But alas, the scene was cut.

What bands and music genres influence your writing?
