How about Josh Jones? – from Jeremy. Has a nice ring to it. I’m currently researching how to write a mystery stories and thinking about my main characters. I’ve always been a plot first kind of writer, so this style lends itself well to mysteries where laying down clues leads to complicated plot designs. I am also keeping an open eye towards sequels – knowing that mystery series are poplular. So this makes my lead character all the more important. He has to be good enough that after the story is over, you wonder if he might get involved in another mystery some day, and as a reader, you want to be there for it. Since I opted for a regular person and not a Private Eye or Police Investigator, it is especially important that I make the main character believable as a amateur sluthe. Being that many Programmers are naturally curious and uber ones – Hackers, especially so, I don’t think this is an issue. My main character will be especially curious and bold, but not an a know everything kind of guy. He’ll get a good insight, but wind up having to consult his friends and do plenty of Googling on his own to get him thorugh the twists and turns of the story.
